From 19 to 27 October 2019 the MuMi, the Museo Michetti in Francavilla al Mare, on piazza San Domenico, hosts the first selection exhibition “Città di Francavilla al Mare”: the works on show compete for a place at the 13th Biennale di Roma 2020. The exhibition is curated by Sandro Lucio Giardinelli, under the patronage of the Abruzzo Region and the Municipality of Francavilla al Mare; the scientific committee is chaired by Maria Cristina Ricciardi, with Valentina Cocco and Raffaella Cordisco.

Davide shows The Long Flow of Time, mixed media on canvas from 2015, 80×100: a reflection on the mystery of birth and on our relationship with time. At the centre are two newborns, the beginning of life, painted with an almost sculptural realism on a textured ground; beside them a golden hourglass holding a blue vortex and, in the background, a large clock with Roman numerals shading from blue to gold.
“It is like a fracture in space-time that pulls you into an amniotic world full of astral situations, setting you afloat in the universe.”

On Saturday 19 October, at 6.30 pm, the vernissage. The crowd gathers in piazza San Domenico, in front of the museum building, then moves into the exhibition rooms.

That same morning the CIAC, the Centro Internazionale Artisti Contemporanei chaired by Giuseppe Chiovaro, chose the seventeen artists who go through to the Biennale di Roma 2020: Davide is one of them. In the evening, in the museum’s packed main hall, one of the exhibition organisers hands him his selection.

With the selection come the CIAC’s letter and the list of those selected.

The certificate of participation bears the signatures of Maria Cristina Ricciardi, chair of the committee, Giuseppe Chiovaro, president of the CIAC, and the lawyer Michele Accettella, delegate for culture. In the room, beside the work, the label with its title and technique.

Also taking part in the exhibition is Caterina, an artist who shared a desk with Davide at the Victoria Academy, with a work of her own. During the evening Caterina and Giulio stop in front of The Long Flow of Time.

At the end of the evening Sandro Lucio Giardinelli, curator of the exhibition, poses in the centre with Davide, Caterina and other exhibiting artists; then comes the souvenir photo with his brother Giuseppe and friends.
