Lecce Fashion Weekend 2012 was a marvellous event, held in Lecce this year, which among its many protagonists featured an exceptional artist such as Davide Cristofaro.
Puglia is the common thread between his South and the pure, defined colours of the East. Davide Cristofaro loves Africa and ethnic cultures, and seeks to blend it all with his land of origin. Its artistic, folkloric, cultural and landscape features establish its kinship with the cultures of other countries, which today more than ever find in the uniqueness and singularity of the territory the conditions to integrate and tell their story; an experience that, deep in our consciousness, binds us all to that secret, fairy-tale world found in every corner of the earth.
The two mini collections presented by Davide Cristofaro, “Fluidity” and “Etno Chic”, are a fusion of beauty from faraway lands.
Fluidity
Fluidity is the key word of the first collection:
- Fluidity of the silk
- Fluidity of the colour
- Fluidity of the patterns
Rainbows of thoughts, floating colours, pass through the brush and come to rest on the silk, creating emotions in a magical world.
Etno Chic
Magical mystery is the word that represents Cristofaro’s second collection:
- Warm winds from the East, the scent of ginger and curry, magical mystery and sensual allure seep into the weave of the hand-painted silks, with an elegant and harmonious local contamination.
Unique, exclusive garments that can never be identical to any other.
Davide Cristofaro claims his belonging to his Land and has succeeded in finding a common thread between his South and the desert sand, the pure, defined colours of the East and of Africa, very dear to him and perceptible through his creations. Colour and pattern dominate his designs; the woman who inspires Davide Cristofaro is a woman who wants to dare, but with elegance, a free and enterprising woman who loves to travel and loves to live.
The designer’s aim is to spread his art in Italy and abroad, and he hopes to open a Workshop / Gallery / Boutique in Martina Franca, where he would like to exhibit his works of Art / Fashion / Design while keeping with his town the bond that has tied him to it since his childhood.
I wanted to wholeheartedly thank Davide Cristofaro for giving me the opportunity to review his participation in Lecce Fashion Weekend 8: in this way I was able to present his hand-drawn designs on these marvellous silks, which allow us to savour and travel towards different cultures, such as Africa, united also with the culture of a beautiful land like Puglia.
