Davide Cristofaro:
“Environmental messages shouted through art”

Davide Cristofaro (Putignano, 16 August 1985) is a womenswear haute couture fashion designer, theatre costume designer and silk painting designer. In his case, one could say that art runs in the family, since his paternal grandfather was a distinguished painter and his great-grandfather, also on his father’s side, a distinguished sculptor who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. His artistic training began at a school specialising in tourism, where he came into contact with fashion. He graduated in Fashion Design from the “Victoria Academy” Moda Designer Institute. He recently exhibited three works at the Milan Expo: “Protect Me from My Present”, “The Long Flow of Time” and “Mother Earth”. These are works entrusted with an incisive, topical message aimed at safeguarding and defending nature, threatened first and foremost by pollution and environmental exploitation. Emblematic of this message is a black mask that rises halfway between the emblem of death and that of destruction. A mask/banner of the looming danger that threatens our planet. Then again, a man in a foetal position seems to recall the concept of the seed that, having fallen, splits open and brings life back: teaching us that we can be reborn from the ruins. Cristofaro’s painting presents itself as a frank and immediate language that shouts, through images and colours, a message of love for our planet, which we so little love and protect.
